i-Wireless

Headquartered in Kentucky, i-Wireless is a mobile virtual network provider (MVNO) that offers nationwide prepaid mobile services using the Sprint Nextel CDMA network. Today, the cellular network’s phones and services are sold in more than 2,200 Kroger retail locations and affiliated stores in 31 states. Additionally, i-Wireless prepaid phones, plans, and refills are also offered by other retailers throughout the United States.

Because i-Wireless relies on Sprint Nextel as the MVNO’s bandwidth provider, i-Wireless prepaid customers are guaranteed nationwide and high-quality digital cellular service as long as Sprint Nextel CDMA coverage is available.

With i-Wireless, prepaid users, regardless of their mobile usage patterns, no longer need to sign-up for long-term commitments, thus doing away with credit checks, complicated phone bills, and pre-termination penalties. And depending on their calling needs, i-Wireless prepaid users may choose pay-per-use (pay-as-you-go) plans or unlimited monthly plans.

Unlike other prepaid MVNOs, i-Wireless does not charge activation fees and roaming charges. But perhaps the most appealing selling point of i-Wireless is that the network does not charge incoming text messages in all of the prepaid plans.

Note: i-Wireless should not be confused with T-Mobile affiliate I Wireless. The two wireless networks are entirely different in infrastructure, ownership, and business operations.

i-Wireless Pay-as-You-Go Plans

Prepaid users who use their mobile phone less frequently may opt for i-Wireless prepaid pay-as-you-go plans with two options to choose from. The first option, which charges an additional monthly fee of $5, costs prepaid users $0.10 per minute of airtime and $0.20 per text message sent. The second pay-as-you-go plan, on the other hand, does not require any monthly cost, but per-minute rate is twice higher at $0.20. Also, text messaging costs $0.20 per message sent.

Web browsing feature for both i-Wireless prepaid pay-as-you-go plans may be purchased as an add-on, in which the first option costs $5 for 20MB of data. A higher add-on amount is available at $10, which includes up to 50MB of data.

Besides Kroger retail stores and affiliate dealers, online prepaid mobile recharge stores are a convenient way to replenish minutes without braving the crowds in retail locations. Both $10 and $20 prepaid refills expire after 30 days, while the higher prepaid recharge denominations have a 90-day expiry.

i-Wireless Prepaid Monthly Plans

Heavy text users may find i-Wireless monthly plans appealing because all the monthly plans already include unlimited text messages. The first option, at $25, also includes 200 airtime minutes and 200 MB of data. A $40 monthly plan is also available, which includes 800 more minutes of calls—a total of 1000 minutes of airtime. Mobile data download limit is also higher at 500MB.

The highest i-Wireless monthly plan allows prepaid subscribers to maximize the network’s seamless prepaid service with unlimited texting and calling—all for only $60. Plus, one gets 2500MB of mobile data.

All i-Wireless prepaid monthly plans cost an additional $0.20 for every picture message sent or received.
