Ufone (Pakistan)

Ufone is a mobile brand owned by Pakistan Telecommunication Mobile Ltd. (PTML), a subsidiary of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) that operates GSM infrastructures to support its mobile and wireless data services to a subscriber base of more than 28 million.

Ufone launched its commercial coverage in January 2001 over the GSM 900MHz spectrum. Since its inception, the network’s innovative expansion plans have resulted in a fast-paced growth in the local mobile market. In 2006, the privatization of PTCL has resulted in the US$2.6 billion acquisition of 26% of its shares by Emirates Telecommunications Corporation Group (Etisalat), ushering a more competitive atmosphere in Pakistan’s telecommunications industry.

In recent years, Ufone has achieved and maintained its position as the second largest telecommunications provider in Pakistan, offering cost-effective mobile products and services through its prepaid and postpaid platform. Today, the mobile network operates in more than 10,000 domestic locations, also partnering with 200 network operators in more than 122 countries to provide reliable roaming coverage.

Ufone positions its products and services through marketing strategies that focus more on the youth, which comprises 50% of the Pakistani population, hence the mobile network’s diverse prepaid offers. With Ufone prepaid plans, mobile users, regardless of their credit standing, may now access the wireless provider’s wide range of mobile services without the need for contract sign-ups and other unnecessary monthly fees. Sure enough, Ufone’s rechargeable plan options have gained more momentum as compared to its postpaid billing platform.

Kisan Package

Ufone subscribers who make shorter calls more frequently may choose the Kisan Package, which delivers per-minute all-network calling rate of Rs1 from 4 a.m. to 12 p.m.; and from 12 p.m. to 4 a.m., the same local calls cost Rs1.30 per minute. Also, text messaging costs a flat rate of Rs1 per SMS sent to any network.

Lady’s Package

The Lady’s Package, exclusively available to women, offers a very competitive rate of Rs2 per hour to all PTCL numbers from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and from 5 p.m. to 10 a.m., the same calls are charged Rs1.25 per minute. By contrast, talk time to other networks costs a flat rate of Rs1.25 per minute at any time of the day.

U^th Package

This youth-oriented prepaid plan entitles customers more talk time to Friends and Family numbers, charging only Rs2.99 per hour for FnF calling from 12 a.m. to 5 p.m., while same calls cost Re0.45 per 30 seconds from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m.

On the other hand, other on-net mobile calls made from 12 a.m. to 9 a.m. cost Rs1 per 30 seconds, and each subsequent minute from the second minute of each call will be free of charge. The free minutes, however, are not applicable during other time periods. For talk time to other networks, each minute costs a flat rate of Rs1.25 per 30 seconds.

With messaging and mobile internet, each on-net SMS sent costs Rs0.20, while each off-net SMS costs Rs1. Mobile users may also send multimedia messages at a rate of Re1 per 64 kilobytes of data.

Ufone Prepaid Refills

Subscribers who wish to replenish their mobile airtime may purchase Ufone prepaid refill cards or electronic top-up vouchers from Ufone stores and authorized dealers. Electronic refills may also be purchased from MCB bank ATMs. Ufone prepaid top-ups come in scratch card denominations of Rs100, Rs250, Rs500, and Rs1000.

For international mobile recharge options, Babblebug.net offers Ufone prepaid load denominations ranging from US$5 to US$70, which will be forwarded to the prepaid account in Pakistan’s local currency, the rupee.
