TIM (Brazil)

TIM (Telecom Italia Mobile) is a cellular brand owned by Telecom Italia, which operates telecommunications networks in Brazil, Argentina, and Peru. Since the launching of its initial operations in 1998, TIM has further expanded toward all the Brazilian states offering both local and international calling and data services through its mobile and landline infrastructures.

From its previous TDMA cellular network, TIM has completely switched to 100% digital GSM mobile coverage operating under the 900/1800 MHz frequency across Brazil. Today, TIM runs about 16,200 km of fiber-optic cables spread throughout Brazil, which means unparalleled nationwide coverage all across the country.

The mobile carrier now operates in over 2,900 cities and 2,150 towns with its GSM, GPRS, EDGE, and 3G coverage in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Brasilia, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Porto Alegre, Recife, and other cities. Since 2009, TIM’s subscriber base has grown from 37.8 million to 42 million.

In terms of the mobile network’s cellular services, TIM offers both postpaid and prepaid plans at competitive calling, texting, and data transfer rates that appeal to the general Brazilian market. TIM Prepaid Plans

Infinity Pre

TIM offers its prepaid subscribers one of the most affordable prepaid services with the TIM Infinity Pre prepaid plan, requiring no sign-up fees, monthly bills, and mandatory reloading of airtime. The prepaid package entitles prepaid mobile users unlimited local calling to other TIM mobile numbers for only R$0.25 per call. Unlimited local calls to landlines cost R$0.50 per call.

With the TIM Infinity Pre, subscribers may take advantage of the Infinity Torpedos plan or unlimited SMS package for only R$0.50 per day. Text messages may be sent to any network carrier across Brazil without incurring additional charges at all. And with this option, mobile users pay only for the days when SMS service is utilized.

As for mobile internet browsing, the Infinity Web plan or unlimited mobile internet allows prepaid customers to access the web for only R$0.50 per day of use. And just like the unlimited text messaging service, this unlimited internet package does not charge the account on days when no mobile web access is recorded.

Plano 1 (Plan 1)

With the TIM Plan 1 prepaid tariff, subscribers take advantage of cheaper mobile calling to up to 3 special numbers of their choice, which may either be 3 TIM mobile/landline numbers or a combination of 2 TIM mobile/landline numbers and 1 phone number on any network carrier. Each set of 5 minutes of talk time to a special number only costs R$1 or an equivalent of R$0.2 per minute.

To switch to the TIM Plan 1 and add the special mobile numbers, subscribers may dial *222 from their mobile phone. On this plan, TIM provides prepaid refill denominations of R$1, R$3, and R$5. These TIM mobile recharge denominations are unique to the TIM Plan 1 prepaid package and may not be used for other TIM prepaid plans.

My Way (Meu Jeito)

With the TIM Meu Jeito prepaid plan, subscribers may choose from among the five options available: Meu Jeito Sempre (Always My Way), which offers a flat calling rate at any time of the day; Meu Jeito Cedo (My Way Early), with reduced-rate hours from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.; Meu Jeito Meio-Dia (My Way Noon), with reduced-rate hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.; Meu Jeito  Tarde (My Way Afternoon), with reduced-rate hours from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.; and Meu Jeito Noite (My Way Night), with reduced-rate hours from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

All reduced-rate hours indicated in the My Way plan options take effect from Monday to Saturday. On Sundays, all My Way plans except the Meu Jeito Sempre (Always My Way) offer reduced-rates the entire day. Also, My Way subscribers enjoy flat calling rates to “favored” or special numbers.

TIM subscribers located across Brazil need to note that off-peak or reduced-rates vary among states where their prepaid SIM card was purchased and registered.  For example, in Sao Paulo, the Meu Jeito Sempre prepaid plan charges R$1.36 per minute for local calls and R$0.79 per minute for calls to favored or special numbers.

In Rio de Janeiro, on the other hand, the same My Way plans offer cheaper calling rates as compared to that of Sao Paulo. With the Meu Jeito Sempre prepaid plan, anytime calling costs only R$1.31 per minute and calling to special numbers costs R$0.73 per minute. TIM prepaid top-up refills may be purchased from TIM store locations located throughout Brazil.
