Tata Docomo (India)Owned by Tata Teleservices, Tata Docomo is a mobile brand that provides GSM coverage in 19 telecom circles across India. The mobile brand was a result of Tata Teleservices Limited’s joint agreement with the Japanese telecom NTT Docomo in 2008. Currently, Tata Docomo’s network covers the telecom circles of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Orissa, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Mumbai, Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh, Haryana-Punjab, Kolkata, Rest of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, UP (East), UP (West), Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan. In terms of providing 3G services, Tata Docomo was the third wireless provider to deploy 3G infrastructures in its approved territories. 3G technology allows mobile subscribers to place video calls and to access the internet at much faster speeds as compared to what 2G technology delivers. Recently, talks went under way between Tata Teleservices and NTT Docomo regarding the companies’ plans to install 4G infrastructures in selected areas in the country. Tata Teleservices also provides CDMA mobile coverage through another brand, Tata Indicom and Virgin Mobile. But over the years, GSM-based brand Tata Docomo has slowly taken the lead in offering cutting-edge mobile services especially with the network’s incorporation of 3G services, the subscriber base of which has reached 1.5 million as of May 2011. To date, Tata Teleservices Ltd serves an aggregate of more than 84 million subscribers located in 450,000 towns and villages across India. And with Tata Docomo’s prepaid GSM plans, more customers are shifting toward such less financially demanding option, which allows customers to enjoy seamless network services without having to sign-up for annual contracts.
Additional Product Information
Tata Docomo Prepaid Plans Tata Docomo Pay-as-You-Go Plan As with the network’s prepaid plans, specific tariffs may vary among calling circles. The information listed below represents that of Mumbai. For all other regions in India, one may logon to http://www.tatadocomo.com to obtain specific plan details offered in their location. New subscribers may purchase a Tata Docomo SIM card, worth (Rupees) Rs49, with lifetime validity. Upon activation, one receives free talk time worth Rs5. For outgoing on-net and off-net calls, subscribers are charged 1paisa per second. Also, STD calls will be charged the same rate within one year from the date of activation, after which charging will be at 2paise per second. Each text message sent, on the other hand, costs Re1/SMS to local numbers, Rs1.5 to national networks, and Rs5 to international destinations. With Tata Docomo, all incoming calls are free of charge. Meanwhile, accessing the internet through the network’s WAP or GPRS connection costs 10paise per kilobyte (KB) of data. As for international long distance rates, one may log on to http://www.tatadocomo.com. Although Tata Docomo customers enjoy lifetime validity of their prepaid subscription, they must recharge their account at least Rs200 every six months to keep their account active. Tata Special Tariff
Vouchers Considering the diverse mobile usage needs of Tata Docomo subscribers, the mobile network provides Tariff Vouchers that deliver specific cost-effective benefits such as more affordable local calling and STD airtime, among many others. Local Tariff Vouchers Local tariff vouchers worth Rs32 and Rs69, with respective validity period of 30 and 60 days, deliver cheaper local mobile calling for only 1paisa per 2 seconds of airtime. But as affordable as this package may seem, subscribers cannot use this plan while on roaming. On-Net Tariff Voucher With a standard retail price of Rs24, the on-net tariff voucher delivers much cheaper local on-net calls at 1paisa per six seconds (10p/min) of airtime, while STD on-net calls cost 1paisa per three seconds (20p/min). With a validity period of 30 days, the tariff voucher’s on-net calling is also applicable to Tata Indicom and Virgin Mobile numbers. STD Tariff Voucher Because subscribers’ STD calling needs greatly vary, Tata Docomo offers four options to choose from: Rs16 (all STD mobile calls at 2paise per 3 seconds), Rs31 (2paise per 3 seconds of STD calls plus 100 free local and national SMS), Rs36 (all STD calls at 1paisa per 2 seconds, but the first minute will be charged 1paisa per second), and Rs62 (all STD mobile calls at 2paise per 3 seconds), with validity periods of 15, 30, 30, and 90 days, respectively. The STD Tariff Voucher is available to all existing subscribers. However, this promotion is applicable for use within the home network only. In other words, the STD Tariff Voucher will not apply when subscribers go on roaming. ISD Calling Pack Depending on the type of voucher denomination purchased, the ISD calling pack entitles cheaper calls to selected international destinations. The Rs28 pack, for example, offers 30 days of affordable calls to Gulf countries, charging only 12paise per second. The Rs59 denomination delivers 1paisa-per-second calling to US and Canada, while the Rs205 pack charges the same rate to the US and Canada, but includes bonus airtime worth Rs145.
