Roshan (Afghanistan)

Launched in 2003, Roshan is a mobile network operator based entirely in Afghanistan. From its initial market of 30,000 subscribers, Roshan now boasts more than 4 million customers or about 58% of the market share, making the wireless provider the largest in the country, covering 230 cities and towns across Afghanistan.

Roshan Prepaid Plans

Yaraan

The Yaraan prepaid package appeals to prepaid subscribers whose friends and family also have Yaraan prepaid plans. During off-peak hours (Saturday to Thursday, 10 p.m. to 8 p.m., and all day Friday), Yaraan to Yaraan calling costs AFN5.50 per minute only during the first two minutes of the call, and each succeeding minute will be free of charge. At other times, mobile calling, whether on-net (to Roshan network) or off-net (to other network operators), costs AFN5.50 per minute.

Also, with the Yaraan prepaid plan, each on-net SMS costs only AFN 1, each text message sent to other domestic mobile networks costs AFN2.50, and each text message sent to international numbers cost AFN10.

Aali

For Roshan subscribers with a closer circle of friends and family members, the Aali prepaid package allows the mobile user to preset up to seven phone numbers as part of his or her Friends & Family (F&F) calling group, the breakdown of which includes up to five Roshan mobile numbers, one non-Roshan domestic mobile number, and one international number.

Per-minute calling to a Roshan number belonging to the Friends & Family group only costs AFN1, while calling to an F&F number on a different network costs AFN3 per minute. Calls to F&F international number cost a flat rate of AFN10 per minute, while all other calls except international airtime cost AFN5.50 per minute. To pre-select F&F numbers, one needs to dial 555 from his or her Roshan mobile phone.

With Aali, each text message sent to Roshan mobile numbers or to other domestic network operators costs AFN2.50, while international SMS costs AFN10 per text message.

Advantages of Roshan Prepaid Plans

Unlike other mobile operators, Roshan offers simpler calling tariffs with the network’s per-six-second charging scheme, which is applicable to both Yaraan and Aali prepaid packages. Also, both Yaraan and Aali prepaid SIM cards cost AFN100 each, which also includes free airtime worth 100AFN.

Both plans do not require subscription fee and activation fee; plus the plans offer an inbound bonus of AFN0.3 per minute of incoming calls.

Roshan Prepaid Top-ups

Roshan mobile users may buy Roshan prepaid airtime refills from among the network’s 175 kiosks and more than 3,800 outlets located across the country. But for greater convenience, Babblebug.com also offers Roshan prepaid mobile refills from a minimum prepaid recharge denomination of US$5 to a maximum prepaid top-up of US$79. Customer Support

Roshan subscribers may dial 333 from their Roshan mobile phone anytime from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., daily. However, only one call per day is free of charge, and each subsequent call within the day costs AFN2.50. Calling IVR costs AFN10 per minute.
