Moldcell (Moldova)

Since 2000, Moldcell, one of the fastest growing mobile network operators in Moldova, has constantly raised the bar in providing GSM- and UMTS-based mobile services across the Republic. The wireless provider’s telecommunications services include, among many others, local and long-distance voice, messaging, data, and value-added services.

The mobile network is owned in part by MolFintur SRL Holding (1%) and Fintur Holdings BV (99%). Established in the first quarter of 2000, Moldcell was lauded as the first communications network to offer expansive prepaid roaming services with its 250 partner networks in 139 countries. In April 2008, Moldcell launched Alocard, the network’s first prepaid brand. Such platform has provided a promising approach to enable customers, regardless of their credit profile, to take advantage of Moldcell’s services without contract sign-ups and mandatory monthly bills.

Moldcell today now boasts mobile coverage that reaches to more than 97% of the entire Moldovan population, supporting WAP, GPRS, EDGE, and 3G technologies to guarantee subscribers a virtually seamless coverage anywhere in the country. The cellular network operates using GSM 900/1800 MHz and UMTS 2100MHz standards, providing high-speed mobile internet with download speeds that reach 7.2Mbps.

As of September 2011, Moldcell’s market share reached 34.2% or an equivalent of more than 3.4 million subscribers. Its 3G coverage, to date, covers 73% of the Moldova’s geographic area, up from 47% in the beginning of 2011. Such rapid growth is attributed to Moldcell’s commitment in delivering only state-of-the art mobile services with its prepaid and postpaid billing standards.

Moldcell Prepaid Plans

Cartelă Moldcell, the wireless network’s prepaid brand, provides cost-effective tariffs to meet the diverse needs of Moldcell’s market base. Regardless of the prepaid package, Cartelă Moldcell entitles customers an activation bonus of 1,000 free SMS. Additionally, one may register up to five preferred mobile numbers for affordable mobile calling—50% cheaper as compared to the regular airtime rate. And on Sundays, on-net calls are always free of charge.

Tarif unic

With Tarif Unic, national calls cost 1.5 lei per minute, while on-net calls from regional centers cost only 1 leu per minute. By contrast, mobile airtime to preferred numbers and incoming on-net calls from other regions are charged cheaper at 0.75 lei per minute.

Prietenii mei

Moldcell subscribers who frequently dial regular friends-and-family numbers may opt-in for the Prietenii mei tariff, which charges only 0.75 lei per minute for calls to any of the preferred numbers. Also, night-and-weekend calling costs 0.75 lei. Meanwhile, calls to other on-net numbers and to off-net numbers cost 1.50 lei per minute and 2.00 lei per minute, respectively.

Reţeaua mea

For an even more affordable airtime rate to frequently dialed numbers, this prepaid package charges only 0.60 lei per minute for calls to up to five preferred numbers. On-net calls, on the other hand, cost 1.20 lei per minute, while talk time to other networks costs 2 lei per minute.

Moldcell Prepaid Refills

Mobile users in Moldova may refill their minutes by purchasing Moldcell prepaid top-up cards from Moldcell stores, authorized retail outlets, and dealers located throughout the country. One may also buy Moldcell prepaid top-ups from payment terminals and local banks.

For international refill top-ups, Babblebug.net offers Moldcell prepaid load denominations ranging from US$5 to US$70. Upon successful reload, the prepaid mobile recharge will be converted to Moldova’s currency. Babblebug.net accepts credit cards, debit cards, and PayPal as modes of payment.
