Established in 2001 by the MTN Group, Lonestar Cell is a mobile network operator that provides voice, SMS, internet, and value-added services across Liberia. With mobile coverage that stretches to all of Liberia’s 15 counties, Lonestar Cell is lauded as the most expansive communications service provider in the country. Compared to its competitors, Lonestar Cell’s total investments are considered as the largest in terms of the establishment of mobile infrastructures and the provision of extensive coverage in all counties in the West African state.

Recently, Lonestar Cell was recognized by the Government of Liberia as the Largest Taxpayer in the country, proving the network’s commitment to provide high-quality yet affordable mobile services in the region. Today, Lonestar covers about 77 cities and villages and reaches about 82% of the country’s entire population. Besides Liberia, the telecommunications company operates infrastructures in Benin, Brazzaville, Cameroon, Congo, Cote D’Ivoire, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Syria, Yemen, Iran, Sudan, Afghanistan and Cyprus, among many others.

Lonestar Prepaid Tariffs

Mobile Calling

From Monday to Friday, on-net mobile calling with Lonestar is free of charge from 1 a.m. to 4:59 a.m., while on-net airtime from 5 a.m. to 6:59 a.m. and from 7 p.m. to 12:59 a.m. costs (Liberian dollar) $0.10 per minute. On-net airtime from 7 a.m. to 6:59 p.m., on the other hand, costs $0.15 per minute.

Lonestar-to-Lonestar calls on Saturday and Sunday become more affordable at $0.05 per minute from 7 p.m. to 12:59 a.m. and from 5 a.m. to 6:59 a.m.; while on-net airtime from 7 a.m. to 6:59 p.m. costs $0.08 per minute. On net calls remain free of charge from 1 a.m. to 4:59 a.m.

Meanwhile, mobile calls to other networks cost a flat rate of $0.15 per minute.

Prepaid SMS, MMS, and Data Rates

Text messaging costs $0.03/SMS to other Lonestar MTN numbers, $0.05/SMS to other local networks, USA, and Canada, and $0.10/SMS to other international destinations. Each multimedia message sent, on the other hand, costs $0.10. GPRS/EDGE data access is charged $1 per hour.

Lonestar Prepaid Refills

For prepaid top-up options, one may purchase Lonestar prepaid refill cards from Lonestar flagship stores, authorized dealers, and participating retail outlets. For international top-ups, Babblebug.com offers Lonestar prepaid load denominations ranging from US$5 to US$70, the equivalent Liberian dollar value of which will be forwarded to the prepaid account.
