Lime (British Virgin Islands)

LIME (acronym for Landline, Internet, Mobile, and Entertainment,) is a cellular brand owned by Cable & Wireless Communications PLC, the oldest and largest telecommunications provider in the Caribbean with its 140-year history of providing communications services since the 1880s. In the British Virgin Islands (BVI), Cable & Wireless launched its initial operations in 1967 under the brand name bmobile.

When the BVI government approved the deregulation of its telephone industry in 2006, bmobile won one of the three licenses to continue its operations in the territory. And although its closest competitor, Digicel, eventually won a license to operate in BVI after a controversial court proceeding, Cable & Wireless has continued to implement its aggressive marketing strategies, which resulted to the rebranding of bmobile to LIME in May 2007.

Today, LIME continues to operate not only in the British Virgin Islands but also in other parts of the Caribbean, which include Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, and Turks & Caicos.

LIME was also the first to launch 4G infrastructures in its covered locations across the islands, with the total investment amounting to US$80 million. Such major improvement in wireless connectivity has resulted to seamless mobile web browsing at much faster speeds as compared to that of 3G or 2G technology.

LIME also offers prepaid voice and data services to its burgeoning subscriber base in the Caribbean. With LIME prepaid pay-as-you-go services, subscribers may now access the wireless provider’s cutting-edge mobile services without the need to sign-up for lengthy service plans.

LIME Prepaid Plans

LIME Prepaid Pay-As-You-Go Plan

With the simple-to-understand prepaid rates that LIME provides, more customers choose the mobile network’s pay-as-you-go services, which do not require lock-in periods and unpredictably frustrating monthly bills. On-net (LIME to LIME) mobile calling costs only (US Dollar) $0.20 per minute, while off-net (LIME to other networks) calls are charged $0.35 per minute. Also, incoming calls are already free of charge. Plus, other calling features such as voicemail retrieval, caller ID, and call waiting are already included. With LIME, per-second charging allows mobile users to keep track of their cellular calls more accurately.

As for text messaging, sending SMS to local destinations costs $0.10 per text message, while each text sent to international destinations is priced at $0.20. Also, LIME prepaid users receive a monthly bonus of 10 on-net SMS. Each multimedia message (MMS) sent, on the other hand, costs $0.50.

LIME All Talk Plus

Launched on August 1, 2010, All Talk Plus is a monthly prepaid package that offers 1500 on-net airtime calling, 1500 on-net SMS, and 1GB of on-net mobile data. All Talk Plus sells for $50 per month.

To subscribe to the All Talk Plus prepaid plan, subscribers may send “ALL TALK” to 4255. And because the monthly plan expires after a 30-day period, mobile users need to reactivate the service any time after the expiry date has lapsed.

One Rate Roaming

For tourists or frequent travelers who roam within LIME’s covered territories in the Caribbean, the mobile network offers One Rate Roaming, charging $0.39 per minute to make outgoing calls to the subscriber’s home area network. Incoming calls are charged $0.21 per minute, while each text message costs $0.10.

Mobile Prepaid Data Plans

Frequent mobile internet users may choose the wireless provider’s prepaid data plans starting at $2, which includes one day of 100MB of mobile data. The 1GB option, which expires after 7 days, costs $12, and the 7GB data plan, which expires after 30 days, costs $55. To subscribe to the prepaid internet plan, one only needs to send “data1,” “data7,” or “data30” to 145.

LIME Wireless Prepaid Refill Top-ups

LIME prepaid refills may be purchased from LIME retail locations in the British Virgin Islands (BVI). Also, LIME prepaid top-ups may be purchased on Babblebug.com, which offers LIME prepaid mobile recharge denominations of $5, $10, $20, $30, $40, $50, $60, and $70.
