Digicel (Nauru)

Launched in 2009, Digicel’s mobile network in Nauru is the sole cellular service provider in the country, located north of the Solomon Islands, with a population of 10,000. The wireless provider supports basic calling and messaging services through Flex, Digicel’s prepaid brand.

Since its establishment in 2001, the Digicel Group has been heralded as the fastest growing mobile network in the Caribbean and the Pacific. The telecom provider, incorporated in Bermuda, rolled out its first operations in Jamaica, and years later, expanded its coverage to the country’s adjacent islands and territories. In 2006, Digicel added the Pacific as its next stronghold by establishing mobile networks that now cover Samoa, Tonga, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, and Nauru.

More than ten years after its establishment, Digicel’s subscriber base has reached 11.5 million with all its 32 markets combined. To date, it has invested more than US$3.4 million in all its investments on cellular infrastructures and operations. The mobile network also provides competitive customer care and technical support.

In Nauru, Digicel Flex, the wireless provider’s prepaid brand, offers one of the simplest prepaid tariffs available in the network’s Pacific market. With Digicel, locals in the island now enjoy cellular services with affordable rates that best fit their communication needs.

Digicel Flex offers a flat local calling rate of $0.30 per minute. With Digicel, mobile airtime is charged per second from the first second of each call.

Digicel’s international airtime rates vary depending on the international destination. For example, a minute of call to Australia, New Zealand, China, Taiwan, or Fiji costs only $0.70, while each minute of call to Solomon Islands or PNG costs $1.50. Meanwhile, calls to San Marino and Sao Tome & Principe are charged $2.50 per minute. With Digicel, basic calling features such as call forwarding, call waiting, call hold, and missed-call alert are free of charge.

As for text messaging, sending local SMS costs 12c, while text messages sent to international destinations cost 30c per SMS.

Digicel Prepaid Refills

Mobile users who wish to replenish their airtime minutes may purchase Digicel prepaid top-ups from the network’s flagship store located in Nauru.
