In December 2007, Digicel Honduras became the second mobile market launched by the Digicel Group in Central America. The mobile network’s El Salvador operation—Digicel’s first in the region—was launched a few months prior to the commencement of the network’s operation in Honduras.

In March 2011, Digicel announced its planned acquisition of Claro’s entire operations in Jamaica in exchange for Claro’s acquisition of Digicel’s businesses in Honduras and El Salvador plus additional cash awarded to Digicel. The proposed acquisition of Claro’s Jamaican operations would result to 80% dominance of the Jamaican mobile market, leaving the remaining 20% to LIME, Digicel’s rival network in the Caribbean.

Digicel Prepaid Plans

Paquete de Voz Digicel Prepago (Digicel Prepaid Voice Package)

With Digicel’s prepaid airtime plans, mobile users may choose packages with 30, 120, 400, or 1,000 calling minutes worth (Lempira) L57.08, L114.16, L285.41, and L570.82, respectively.

For calls to the United States and Canada, one may choose the 45-minute (L25) or the 180-minute (L75) package with expiration periods of 1 day and 7 days, respectively.

Paquete de Mensajes Digicel Prepago (Digicel Prepaid Messaging Pack)

Frequent SMS users may also opt-in for Digicel’s prepaid text messaging packages, starting with the 75 SMS package, worth L4 with a validity period of 1 day. A more cost-effective SMS pack is also available, which delivers 7 days’ worth of 700 text messages for only L30.

Digicel mobile users with GPRS-capable handsets may subscribe to 1GB (L39), 3GB (L149), or 8GB (L399) of data, with expiration periods of 1 day, 7 days, and 30 days, respectively.

To activate any of the packages, Digicel customers may dial *134# on their mobile phone. Activation is free of charge.

Digicel Prepaid Refills

In Honduras, prepaid customers may purchase Digicel prepaid mobile recharge load from Digicel flagship stores, authorized dealers, banks, authorized refill centers with “Digicel Sale Here” signs, or other store outlets located across the country. One may also replenish his or her airtime minutes by purchasing Digicel prepaid top-ups on Babblebug.com, which provides Digicel international top-up denominations ranging from US$5 to US$70.

Once purchased, the Digicel prepaid top-up will be converted to an equivalent amount in Honduras’s local currency. Babblebug.com accepts credit cards, debit cards, and PayPal as Digicel prepaid recharge payment options.
