Digicel (Grenada)After acquiring a license in May 2003 to operate mobile infrastructures in Grenada, Digicel Grenada launched its first operations in October 2003 with GSM 900/1800MHz coverage. In 2006, the mobile network was also granted the license to operate fixed telephony and internet services throughout the Caribbean island. In 2005, Digicel Grenada moved forward with the acquisition of the island’s entire Cingular Wireless operations, strengthening Digicel’s dominance even further. To date, the mobile network has invested more than US$10 million in an effort to provide cutting edge technology and excellent cellular services. As a telecommunications company, the Digicel Group was incorporated in Bermuda in 2001, after which the mobile network launched its first operations in Jamaica. Digicel Prepaid Plans With Digicel FLEX, the mobile network’s prepaid brand, subscribers enjoy per-second charging of mobile talk time anywhere within the cellular coverage. Also, basic calling features such as call waiting, voicemail, calling line identity, call hold, and call barring are already included. Incoming calls are also free of charge. Digicel FLEX Tariffs and Rates Digicel offers cheaper calling rates for on-net calls. During peak hours (6 a.m.-8 p.m.), Digicel-to-Digicel calling costs (East Caribbean Dollar) EC$0.38 per minute, while airtime to other domestic mobile networks and fixed lines is charged EC$0.85 per minute. During off-peak hours (8 p.m.-6 a.m.), on-net talk time costs only EC$0.33 per minute, while off-net calls cost EC$0.80 per minute. On weekends, however, on-net calls charge the cheapest per-minute rate of EC$0.25, while off-net calling costs EC$0.75 per minute. As for text messaging, each on-net SMS sent costs EC$0.15, while each text message sent to other networks and international destinations is charged EC$0.25 and EC$0.40, respectively. For mobile web and MMS rates, one may dial 100 from his or her Digicel phone to obtain the latest usage rates. Digicel Prepaid Refills Digicel prepaid subscribers may recharge their mobile airtime by purchasing Digicel FLEXcards from Digicel flagship stores, retail shops, dealers, and other outlets located across Grenada. Also, subscribers may visit Babblebug.net to purchase Digicel prepaid top-ups ranging from US$5 to US$70. Although Babblebug.net offers Digicel prepaid load in US dollars, the purchased prepaid top-up will be converted to an equivalent amount in Grenada’s currency, the East Caribbean dollar.
