In June 2006, Digicel Group, the fastest growing mobile network in the Caribbean, launched its mobile operations in the French West Indies, which includes Martinique, Guadeloupe, and French Guiana, deploying digital GSM/3G infrastructures amounting to US$25 million worth of initial investment.

The establishment of Digicel mobile services in the region was made possible with the telecom’s acquisition of Bouygues Telecom Caraibe earlier in the same year, resulting to the addition of 160,000 more subscribers to the overall Digicel mobile market.

Following the incorporation of the Digicel Group in Bermuda in 2001, the mobile network launched its first cellular operations in Jamaica. A few years later, Digicel further expanded into areas in the Caribbean, the Pacific, and Central America. Today, Digicel boasts more than 11.5 million subscribers with all the mobile market combined.

In French Guiana, Digicel’s strongest selling points are the cellular network’s cutting-edge wireless services and its expansive 3G network, which provide faster internet connection as compared to that offered by 2G networks. Digicel Prepaid Pay-as-You Go Plans

A higher denomination of €6 per month delivers 80 SMS, which charges the same per-SMS rate as that of the €3 plan. A better option, the €10 plan offers 140 SMS or an equivalent rate of €0.071 per text message.

To subscribe to the text messaging monthly packs, Digicel customers may dial 555 from their mobile handsets.

For Digicel prepaid top-ups, customers may replenish their airtime minutes by purchasing Digicel prepaid mobile recharge load from Digicel flagship stores and retail shops located in French Guiana. Also, Digicel subscribers may conveniently purchase Digicel prepaid refill top-ups on Babblebug.com, which offers Digicel prepaid top-up denominations ranging from US$5 to US$70.

Although Babblebug.com sells international top-ups in US dollars, the purchased prepaid load will be converted to French Guiana’s currency, the Euro. Babblebug.com accepts credit cards, debit cards, and PayPal as modes of payment.
