Digicel (Aruba)

In 2003, Digicel Group established its first mobile telecommunications infrastructure in Aruba, initially providing 2G coverage with a frequency of GSM 800/1800 in the Caribbean island. Digicel Group was first established in April 2001 in Jamaica; and since its inception, the mobile service provider witnessed overall positive response from subscribers not only in Jamaica but also in major parts of the Caribbean where Digicel coverage is available.

As of 2011, Digicel Group already boasts more than 11.5 million subscribers located across the Caribbean, Central America, and the Pacific. In all, Digicel provides mobile coverage in 26 countries and also manages a total of 32 Digicel markets in all its covered locations.

In 2006, Digicel further expanded its network toward the South American Mainland, and later in Panama, Honduras, and the British Virgin Islands. And to strengthen its foothold even further against its strongest competitor, LIME, Digicel moved forward with the acquisition of America Movil operations in Jamaica in 2011, enhancing Digicel’s dominance in the Caribbean market.

Digicel’s success is mainly attributed to its aggressive marketing strategies and the network’s attempts to customize its mobile services to specific regions covered by the network. Because Digicel offers both postpaid and prepaid mobile plans, mobile users from all walks of life may take advantage of the cellular network’s seamless coverage and simple-to-understand mobile usage rates.

Digicel Prepaid Plans and Prepaid Top-ups

Prepaid Digicel Flex

Digicel Flex is the cellular provider’s prepaid brand, delivering mobile services that require no contract sign-ups, monthly bills, rental fees, and connection fees. And with Digicel Flex’s per-second charging, prepaid customers are assured of accurate and controllable mobile usage, further doing away with charging disputes and complaints.

During peak hours (7 a.m.-11 p.m.), on-net calls (Digi - Digi) cost Aruban florin (Afl.) 0.74 per minute, while calls to Digicel fixed lines and to other mobile networks are charged Afl. 0.84 per minute. During off-peak hours (11 p.m.-7 a.m.), Digi to Digi calling costs Afl. 0.64 per minute, while calls to Digicel landlines and to other networks are priced lower at Afl. 0.44 per minute.

Digicel Flex already includes calling features such as call waiting, calling line identity (caller ID), voicemail, and multiparty conferencing.

SMS Bundles (DigiTEXT)

DigiTEXT offers one of the most affordable SMS bundles with four options to choose from. Starting with Low Usage SMS bundle, one takes advantage of 20 Digicel to Digicel text messages for only Afl. 2.50. The Medium Usage SMS bundle includes 60 Digicel to Digicel texting at Afl. 6, and the High Usage SMS bundle includes 60 on-net messages priced at Afl. 11. For Digicel prepaid users who frequently send text messages to other local mobile networks, the Mixed SMS bundle is the best option, which includes 60 on-net and off-net SMS.

To take advantage of the SMS bundles, Digicel users may call *143# from their mobile phone.

Digicel Prepaid Data Plan

Prepaid mobile users may take advantage of the Digicel Prepaid Data Plan to download data and access the internet anytime within the Digicel Aruba local network. One may choose 1 day (Afl. 3.50), 7 days (Afl. 17.50), 14 days (Afl. 30), or 30 days (Afl. 50) of unlimited internet. To subscribe, one needs to dial *135# from his or her Digicel mobile phone.

Digicel Pay-as-You-Go Mobile Web

Digicel subscribers who do not wish to take advantage of the prepaid unlimited data plans may choose the pay-as-you-go data plan, which costs Afl. 2 per MB of data, charged on a per-KB basis.

Digicel PrepaidRefills

Digicel subscribers may purchase Flexcards or E-card vouchers from Digicel retail locations throughout the island.
