Digicel (Antigua)Launched in March 2006, Digicel Antigua is a mobile service provider owned by Digicel Group, a leading mobile telecommunications network that covers 26 countries across the Caribbean, Central America, and the Pacific. Digicel Group was established in April 2001 in Jamaica and has continuously expanded its operations by launching mobile services in Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, Barbados, Bermuda, Bonaire, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Curacao, Dominica, El Salvador, Fiji, French Guiana, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, Nauru, Panama, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, St Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Suriname, Tonga, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks & Caicos, Vanuatu, St. Martin and St. Barts. Today, Digicel boasts more than 11.5 million customers across its covered territories. The mobile network also has 26 markets in Central America and the Caribbean and 6 markets in the Pacific. Such rapid growth is mainly credited to Digicel’s aggressive expansion plans over the past years. In September 2006, Digicel acquired ownership of El Nuevo Digicel in El Salvador, and in 2007 and 2008, the mobile network won the bid to operate in Honduras, Panama, and the British Virgin Islands. And to increase its dominance in the Caribbean, Digicel Group acquired America Movil’s entire operations in Jamaica in March 2011.

Digicel Prepaid Plans and Prepaid RefillsUnlike other mobile networks, Digicel offers prepaid mobile services with cheaper calling rates with per-second charging schemes, which the mobile network claims would save mobile users up to 33% of their regular calling expenses. The prepaid Digicel Flex plan requires no lock-in periods, activation fees, and other hefty charges unrelated to the actual mobile usage. Plus the Digicel Flex delivers cheaper per-minute calling during off-peak hours and weekends. With Digicel’s Day Rate (Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-7 p.m.), calls to other Digicel mobile numbers cost EC$0.80 per minute, calls to fixed lines cost EC$0.85 per minute, and calls to other mobile networks cost EC$1.05 per minute. With Night Rate (Monday-Friday, 7 p.m.-7 a.m.), Digicel charges only EC$0.70 per minute for on-net calls and EC$0.75 per minute for calls to fixed lines. Mobile calling to other networks cost EC$0.80 per minute. During the weekends (Midnight Friday to Midnight Sunday), calling to other Digicel mobile phones becomes even more affordable at EC$0.55 per minute, calls to fixed lines, only EC$0.70 per minute, and mobile calls to other networks, EC$0.75 per minute. With DigiTEXT, each SMS sent, whether on-net or to other networks, costs EC$0.29. As for multimedia messaging (MMS) and web access, one needs to dial 100 from his or her mobile phone to request for such services through Digicel customer service. Other calling features such as caller ID, voicemail, call barring, call waiting, call conferencing, and call hold are already include in the prepaid Digicel Flex plan. Digicel Prepaid Refill Top-upsDigicel prepaid subscribers may purchase a FLEXcard top-up refill from retail store locations across the island or from Touch-N-Buy retail stores in the United States.
