BSNL (India)

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd., commonly known as BSNL, is a state-owned telecommunications provider based in India, providing fixed telephony, broadband internet, and CDMA and GSM mobile services across the country. Since the network’s inception in October 2000, BSNL has climbed to the seventh spot among the largest communications companies in the world.

Across India, BSNL provides GSM cellular services under the brand names CellOne and Excel, which cover about 13.5% of the total mobile market in the country. Also, BSNL provides WLL (landline) and CDMA coverage in selected areas. In terms of internet connection, BSNL’s Sancharnet brand offers prepaid internet services through dialup connection, while BSNL’s NetOne offers postpaid DSL broadband internet service.

With the advancement of mobile technology, BSNL has deployed 3G infrastructures in a number of areas in the country, allowing more subscribers to access mobile internet at much faster speeds than what 2G offers. 3G technology offers seamless video calling, live TV, and other video streaming services.

To date, BSNL serves more than 72 million cellular subscribers, more than 27 million landline customers, and about 9.9 million broadband internet users, maintaining its ranking as the largest landline service provider in the country.

BSNL Prepaid Plans

Mobile users who subscribe to BSNL’s prepaid plans may purchase a BSNL SIM card worth (Indian Rupees) Rs18.13. Upon activation, subscribers may choose the following prepaid tariffs:

Saral Anant

The Saral Anant package, which costs Rs15, includes free voice calls worth Rs20 for on-net calls or Rs10 for off-net calls. One also enjoys 20MB of free mobile data and 25 local SMS plus 25 national SMS allocations.

Once the free allocations are consumed, Saral Anant delivers Rs0.90 per minute of both local on-net and off-net calls. As for STD airtime, on-net calls cost Rs1.20 per minute, while calls to other networks are charged Rs1.50 per minute. As for SMS, each text message to local numbers costs only Rs0.80, while each SMS sent to other national networks costs Rs1.00. International SMS, on the other hand, costs Rs5.00 per message.

All @ 49

With the All @ 49 prepaid plan, which costs Rs48, one enjoys more free allocations such as Rs30 worth of on-net calls, Rs20 worth of off-net calls, 50MB of mobile data, 250 on-net SMS, and 250 off-net SMS.

As for regular charging, each minute of off-net or on-net local or STD calls, as well as each SMS sent to local and national destinations, cost Rs0.49. 2G Special

BSNL mobile users who have 2G phones may exclusively take advantage of the 2G Special prepaid package, which includes free allocations of Rs100 worth of on-net calls, Rs50 worth of off-net calls, 150MB of web data, 350 on-net SMS, and 350 off-net SMS.

Once the allocations are consumed, the 2G special charges Rs0.50 per minute for on-net local or STD calls and Rs0.60 per minute for off-net local or STD calls. Text messaging, on the other hand, costs Rs0.40 per SMS to local networks, Rs0.60 per SMS to national operators, and Rs5 per SMS to international numbers. The package costs Rs111.

3G Special

BSNL prepaid subscribers enjoying 3G coverage may opt-in for the network’s 3G Special prepaid plan, which costs Rs120 and includes Rs100 worth of on-net airtime, Rs50 worth of off-net calls, 150MB of mobile data, 350 local SMS, and 350 national SMS. Also, 3G Special includes 100 minutes of on-net video calls.

Regular charges apply once the free allocations are utilized, in which on-net local or STD calls are charged Rs0.50 per minute and off-net local or STD calls cost Rs0.70 per minute. The 3G Special also charges the lowest rate for text messaging, which costs only Rs0.30 per SMS sent to local numbers, and Rs0.50 per SMS sent to national networks. International text messages, on the other hand, still costs Rs5 per SMS sent.

Pyari Jodi $

With more SMS allocations and a price tag of only Rs33, Pyari Jodi $ appeals to mobile users who send text messages more frequently. Also, mobile airtime is charged per-second—ideal for subscribers who intend to keep track of their mobile call expenses more accurately. The package includes Rs20 worth of on-net calls, Rs10 worth of off-net calls, 50MB of mobile internet data, 250 off-net SMS, and 250 on-net SMS.

With this prepaid package, all local or STD calls, whether on-net or off-net, cost Rs0.01 per second. Each text message, local or national, costs a flat rate of Rs0.60. International SMS, on the other hand, costs Rs5 per text message.

1p/sec

The 1p/sec plan, just like the Pyari Jodi $ package, applies the per-second charging scheme. Although this package costs higher at Rs42, the plan includes more on-net airtime allocation, worth Rs30. Other free allocations include Rs10 worth of off-net calls, 50MB of mobile data, 250 on-net SMS, and 250 off-net SMS.

Upon consumption of the included airtime minutes, mobile calls will be charged Rs0.01 per second for both local and national numbers. Also, each text message will cost Rs0.60 per SMS to local and national networks, while each text message sent to international numbers still costs Rs5.00.

Student Special

This prepaid package, which targets a younger subscriber base, delivers the most cost-effective SMS allocations and per-message rates. The plan costs Rs40 and includes Rs30 worth of on-net calls, Rs10 worth of off-net calls, 50MB of mobile data, 300 off-net SMS, and 300 on-net SMS.

Overage charges include Rs0.40 per minute for on-net local or STD calls, Rs0.60 per minute for off-net local or STD calls, Rs0.05 per local SMS, and Rs0.50 per national SMS. International text messaging costs cheaper, for only Rs3 per SMS sent.

BSNL subscribers may replenish their airtime minutes by purchasing BSNL prepaid top-ups from BSNL stores, authorized dealers, retail shops, and store outlets located across the covered telecom circles in India.
