bMobile

bmobile is a cellular brand owned by Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago Ltd (TSTT), one of the oldest communications providers in the Caribbean. Besides providing fixed line services, the mobile network also supports voice and messaging services over its GSM 1800MHz network infrastructures.

TSTT, bmobile’s parent company, was established in 1991, following the merger of The Trinidad and Tobago Telephone Company (TELCO) and Trinidad and Tobago External Telecommunications Company Limited (TEXTEL).

The resulting company, currently owned by Cable and Wireless plc and the national government, had held a telecommunications monopoly until 2005, when licenses were awarded to Digicel and Laqtel, the newest entrants to Trinidad and Tobago’s burgeoning mobile market.

Today, TSTT remains a dominant force with its GSM and CDMA communications coverage, maintaining its operations under its brand name, bmobile. The wireless network offers competitive postpaid and prepaid services, with the prepaid platform winning more subscribers as customers shift toward contract-free and more cost- effective wireless services.

With bmobile, prepaid tariffs are more affordable during off-peak hours. By day, standard calling rate is at (Trinidad and Tobago dollar) $1.30 per minute, while per minute of airtime in the evening costs only $0.65. On weekends, mobile talk time becomes even more affordable, at $0.50 per minute.

As for text messaging, each SMS sent costs $0.30 to other bmobile numbers, $0.50 to Digicel, and $0.60 to international destinations.

To replenish airtime minutes, mobile users may purchase bmobile prepaid refill cards or electronic top-ups from bmobile stores and authorized retail outlets located across Trinidad and Tobago.
